Dark red. Aromas of black plum, blueberry, licorice, mocha and spices. A juicy, supple midweight with good peppery lift and shape to its dark berry, spice, menthol and herb flavors. In a very dry style, with sneaky flavor intensity and thrust. Not quite austere but seemed to shut down in the glass. A bit darker and more brooding than the 2017 version, which was plumper at the same stage. Finishes with edgy tannins and repeating notes of licorice and pepper.
